Custom House Square
Bristol, Rhode Island

The mixed use Custom House Square project addressed the renovation and reuse of a former YMCA facility for a physical and occupational therapy center in combination with retail storefronts along the main street of Bristol’s historic district. The project involved extensive restoration and restructuring of two historic landmark buildings, along with the construction of a new building sensitive to the existing architecture. Interior renovations included reclaiming attic space in order to create a full third floor. Exterior aspects of the project involved duplicating elaborate brick masonry and cast iron detailing to reconstruct a missing 1857 façade of the Custom House Building where a contemporary addition was demolished.
